The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery. - Mark Van Doren

wildlife work
I LOVE ANIMALS! And not just cute, furry kitties and puppies, but ALL animals!
I was deathly afraid of spiders and snakes (like most people!), but then I had the chance to work with
these animals for over 4 years as an educator at the Dallas Zoo.
Fear turned into fascination, and now I find it one of my MISSIONS IN LIFE – to share the happy truth about
nature’s creatures so people and animals can coexist in harmony on this wonderful planet.
I have worked with and love to teach about birds, reptiles, mammals, fish, amphibians and even those creepy
crawly invertebrates! With a background in theater and art, I enjoy creating programs and characters to
teach and entertain about animals.
Here are some of the programs I can offer your group or school:
Insect’s Rule!
As Dr. Dragonfly Breath, I offer a perky little program that explores the many talents and attributes of insects.
Most are beneficial and beautiful, and learning about them can turn our fear into fascination.
Through songs and interactive antics, join Dr. Dragonfly Breath and become a Bug Lover!
*The two highly venomous and potentially dangerous spiders in the North Central Texas area are the black widow and the brown recluse.
Spiders are Cool! The only good spider is a squashed spider, right? Wrong! Sparky the Spin
Doctor will help you learn the truth about our 8-legged friends. They may be our best free and natural pest control!
And there are only a couple of spiders that are potentially dangerous (do you know what they are?*).
After this song-filled program, you may see spiders differently and find that coexisting with them can make your life and world better!

Reptiles Rock! See above about the “only good spider” and apply that to what most folks think about snakes.
Laugh and learn about snakes and you’ll be pleasantly surprised to know how helpful and harmless most of them are!
Learn to identify those few venomous species and many of the non-venomous ones that call the North Texas area their home.
While we’re at it, we’ll talk about other reptiles, like terrific turtles and lovely lizards!
Thank a Plant! Gail the Really Bad Gardener presents a program about plants for kids… sounds boring, doesn’t it?
But think about it! Plants are what make the world go round! There are many, many products we depend on and love
that are from plants, such as cotton, soap, and CHOCOLATE, to name a few! We’ll sing about plants and get the
chance to discuss what eats plants and what eats the animals that eat plants! You didn’t think a program on
plants would lead to talking about tigers, did you!
All programs last approximately 15 to 20 minutes, but can be extended by adding games and fun art
and craft activities.
